MAMO @ Imperial College, Class 02

Second Imperial College class, looking at grey tones. Copying paintings by Matisse and Ben Hartley, no student knew what they were painting, rather they were concerned in transfering the seemingly abstract shapes and blobs from the images I presented them with onto the blank sheet in front of them.

The purpose of this excerise was to get the students to break down colours to grey scale and relate shapes, lines and marks to the horizontal and verticals presented by the edges of thier paper, while at the same time keeping their marks and brush strokes loose and free of self constraint.
